Dear Friends:

It is with a deep sense of pride of accomplishment of what we, parents and advocates, have together accomplished in Alaska, that I leave the Last Frontier. We have together improved the rights of kids. There are now positive cases in Alaska on:

1. the right of parents to recover attorney fees;
2. the right of children with disabilities to obtain Independent Education Evaluations;
3. the right of children with disabilities to insist upon IEPs with goals and objectives that are based on objective measures and capable of measurement;
4. the right of parents to receive prior written notice before their children's programs are changed;
5. the right of parents of children with disabilities to receive private school tuition reimbursement when necessary to educate their children; and
6. the right of children to be protected in disciplinary situations.

The Law Center has a long history of wonderful accomplishments protecting the rights of children with disabilities in Pennsylvania and many other states, particularly with the utilization of class action approaches.
