Sonja Kerr has practiced disability law for nearly twenty years. She is a 1987 graduate of Indiana University School of Law. Ms. Kerr holds a master's degree in psychology from Purdue University. Though this has caused divided loyalty during certain basketball games, both degrees are helpful to her representation of parents.

Ms. Kerr was the first private attorney in Minnesota to devote her practice to the representation of persons with disabilities, especially children. She has litigated numerous significant cases on behalf of children with a variety of disabilities, including children who have spina bifida, visual impairments, hearing impairments, learning disabilities (including dyslexia and nonverbal learning disorders), autism, Tourette's Syndrome, emotional disorders, various developmental disabilities, and Dandy Walker, dyspraxia, fetal alcohol syndrome.

Ms. Kerr has had the pleasure to represent parents in Alaska, Minnesota, Nebraska, Mississippi, Louisiana, Wisconsin, and Indiana. She is currently based in Anchorage, Alaska where she is a member of both the state and federal bar. Ms. Kerr also remains a member of the bar in Indiana (active) and remains licensed but by choice not practicing in Minnesota. Ms. Kerr is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals, Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

Ms. Kerr believes that the struggle for the right to a free appropriate public education is akin to the 1920's suffrage movement and the 1960's racial civil rights movement and that parents can learn from those movements.

Ms. Kerr has no children of her own but is the proud "parent" of one goofy cat, one irascible cockatiel, a new puppy. In her spare time, she enjoys travel, hiking, antiques and reading. One of her unstated goals is to visit every old school house in America.
